  1. No, I am afraid it is an inherited genetic defect.


  2. Fundamentally, no, though there are are some tricks and techniques which can improve colour discrinination in many cases.

    The x-chrom contact lens, with a red tint in one eye, produces a "lustre" in green colours which some find useful.

    Momentary use of a coloured filter can distinguish between  red and green tones, but the same effect is not maintained if the tint is worn permanently.

    "Colormax" lenses can apparently improve the ability to pass colour vision tests, but they worsen certain other colour sensitivities. (URL, section 13 )
