This year I really seem to be having a problem with the bees getting into the feeder and drowning and clogging up the feeder, any answers will be helpful.

  1. if this is a real problem, you can look for hummingbird feeders that have 'bee guards' on the ports..... that keeps the bees too far away from the source to get a drink.....

it is said that the saucer shaped feeders are best, as they have no yellow to attract the bugs, and the ports are set up so it'a long reach to the food.....those on this site are the niftyest!!...

good info here on choosing one....

  2. Hi! as far as i know, there is nothing you can put into the drink to make bees not drink it, yet still attract the hummingbirds and not harm them. I personally enjoy hummingbirds and Bees as they drink nectar and pollinate out of my vegetable gardens, However if you are looking for a solution I recommend:

Instead of using the hummingbird feeder you have now, Just use a dish or plate that you mix some 1 part sugar and 3 parts water in, and the bees will not get trapped, and the birds can drink. I recommend changing the nectar every 1 to 3 days, depending on how hot it is, and not just for the plate method, but this is recommended for all types of feeders.

    Hope this helps :D

  3. I don't see a way honestly.  The sugar is what attracts the birds and bees, if you take out the sweet element, the birds will quit coming.  Maybe buy a different bird feeder?
