  1. There is a bottom paint for outdrives, it works very well...go to a marine store and paint it on. Just clean the surface off good. do NOT sandblast it , just sand and / or pressure wash. Also make sure you have some zincs on your outdrive, and tied into the rsst of the electrical system too

  2. Some Anti-fouling bottom paints are made for stern-drives.  But be sure you follow the directions.  If your bottom is painted you need a gap between the drive and the bottom paint.  Also be sure your zincs are replaced, clean and in good contact with the drive..

  3. No there is nothing on the market that will stop metal from corroding, sooner or later, it will corrode no matter what you do.

  4. If its in salt water your probably out of luck long term.

Go to a marine supply store or a marina and ask.  There is such a thing as 'marine' paint.

  5. If It is a Mercruiser product there is a thing called Mercathode. I am not 100% sure EXACTLEY how it works but from my understanding is that it works in conjuction with your sacrificial anodes and repels the electricity in the water away from the drive to the anodes.

  6. It could be caused by galvanic corrosion. Dissimilar metals and stray electrical charges in your boat and in the water, especially in a marina will speed up corrosion.

There is a method of using zinc - the metal - as a sort of sacrificial metal to focus the erosion on itself and protect nearby metals.

Try "West Marine" on the internet. They will have a good explanation and sell the zinc.

  7. Zincs and obsessive maintenance.
