Is there anything to stop tube train drivers opening doors on the wrong side?

Aside from separate buttons and other obvious preventative measures, is there any automatic device which physically presents this from happenning?

  1. edit: sry didn't realise you meant on the tube oh well

depends on which country your in i suppose. in the uk the guard stii operates the door and there is door release buttons on both sides of the train it is up to the guard to make sure that there is a platform there and that the whole of the trains is on the platform

unfortunatley there has been times when they have lost there concentration and opened the doors on the wrong side or opened them in the middle of nowhere when the train has stopped

  2. All the carriages have switch gear that prevents the doors on the wrong side from opening. In theory it is impossible to open the wrong side doors in a station or on the move.

  3. Yes - it's a system called "Correct Side Door Enable" and is done by sending a radio signal to the door controls on a train which can be received ONLY when a train is fully in a station AND only allowing the doors on the platform side to be opened. If a train stops short of the normal stopping mark (or over-runs) or the driver tries opening the doors on the non-platform side, the absence of the signal will prevent him/her from doing so. Obviously, there are "cut out" switches allowing the system to be by-passed in depots and in emergencies.

and PLEASE don't start with the thumbs down nonsense as soon as I try to make an edit ! ! !
