I am much better at doing things on my right leg and not on my left. I was just wondering if there was anything wrong with skating clockwise.

  1. There is nothing wrong with it!  You need to decide which direction works best for you.  I always have my students spin both directions to see which one in more natural and that is usually the direction they will skate since your jumps rotate the same direction as your spins.

If neither way is predominant then I encourage going counter-clockwise just because of traffic issues on the ice.  My daughter and my niece are both clockwise (lefty) skaters and they get very frustrated because no one ever gets out of their way (some don't know where they are going and don't know where to move to) and they are constantly going against the flow of traffic on the ice.

(Also, my 2 best friends were lefties and struggled with the same issues - that was when we put a lot more skaters on a session.)

  2. i am a lefty and i don't find many issues even with traffic....  you should skate the way that is natural to you.  i'm right- handed though but for whatever reason i skate left-handed...lol.

  3. No.

  4. Nothing wrong with that.  Everyone is more comfortable skating in a different direction.   :)

most right-handed skaters spin/jump to the left

most left-handed skaters spin/jump to the right

(really it doesn't make sense to me)

I am right-handed and I spin/jump to the right (except backspins of course)

when I skate i have to be more careful where I am going

  5. Apart from creating a warp in the space time continuum and causing the Universe to disappear into the mother of all black holes, no.

  6. No

  7. yes you crash into every1 else

  8. Nothing except you will keep banging into people going the other way. Also, in shopping Malls, or going into department stores, most people turn to their right, first. Probably something to do with most people are right-handed. But there's always exceptions - like you!

  9. no.

but usually stroking and warming up is done counter clockwise, so there arent any collisions.
