Ok, I'm thinking of starting a home school called MorningStar Academy, which is in Florida. But I live in Massachusetts, and I'm just wondering if thats fine. Because every state has a different curriculum and will that influence my education? Please answer! thanks!

  1. Isn't it interesting how the people who are clueless about the use of umbrella schools for home schooling are the ones who have negative opinions about the use of them or the titles they have?  Also isn't it interesting to note someone who is very pro public school but can't write in plain understandable English?

    Hmmmmm.

At any rate, yes you can choose a school from a different state and enroll in that program.  You might want to choose a more reputable online program or you might choose a program which provides books and such to you at home.  Calvert school in Maryland is a very reputable school for pre-K through 8th grade.  They will even grade tests, if you so desire.  In the case of an accredited program and for the sake of records, your child will be considered a student in that state.  However,  assuming that your children are at or above the compulsory age for education in your state, you must comply with the home school registration laws of your home state to ensure that your children are not counted as tardy.

    Blessings,

    Shar :)

  2. No cause your not actually learning b/c ur getting from your mom or dad

and thats like if you dont understand they will get mad and as if u go to school the teachers will help you more and they understand more too

  3. it depends on the state say florida has higher currculum your education will go up which is good but if FL has lower standerds then that could influence  your ed. in a bad way.

  4. how can a home school be called an academy. it is just you and your kids.

  5. I've heard to watch out about MorningStar. Mimi Rothschild, the woman who runs it, has had all kinds of complaints against her. Read http://aha.typepad.com/aha_news_blog/200...  And for some reason, she has several academies yet somehow runs them all? Very suspicious. She may have one closer to you than MorningStar, if you are still interested in taking that route.

  6. yeah, i used to do that program....Keystone High School is more challenging though, so that's what I do now!  But yeah, you can do that program in a different state, but make sure you enroll your child with your state so that there is record of him/her attending school!

  7. Morningstar is an accredited academy. The accreditation probably means nothing in Massachusetts (you should look into that if accreditation is what's important to you), but you can have your child enrolled in the academy.  I'm sure your state doesn't require your child be enrolled in any sort of school other than your homeschool just that you cover certain subjects and report to the local BOE (usually just that you are home educating and montly attendance). Good Luck.
