Question:

Is there anything wrong with my kids names?

My husband and I have 3 little boys...

Jaxon Tormey- (pronounced jaxon tore-may) he is almost 3 years

Gannen Dayne - he is 1 1/2

Breysin Kahlai -(pronounced bray-sin kah-lie) he is 4 months

All of them have meaning...Jaxon was the middle name of one of my husband's best friends who passed away, Tormey is my husband's middle name.

Gannen's initials are GDR, and so are his grandfather and great-grandfather's.

And Breysin's initials are BKR, after my husband's step-father.

My question is this: Do you like the names? I've heard from so many people that they are good, unique names, yet I have also heard that my kids are going to be teased and tortured by other kids...why? I mean, what is so bad about Jaxon, Gannen, and Breysin??

  1. Well they are unique names..none I ever heard of before. They are just names that prolly noone has heard of and that makes it hard for people to pronounce and spell therefore might have trouble in school with that. Noone in school will use their middle names so dont focus on those only the first names, does the last name fit them? They are not horrible names just different.

  2. kids get teased for more things then just their names.  your kids name could be Ann, John, Stanley, kids would still find something to tease them about.

unless they go to a school in Compton, i doubt they will be tortured for any reason.

it doesn't really matter what i think of the names.

  3. I don't think there is anything wrong with these names. They are not my favorite names, and I'm not a huge fan of them, but I definitely don't think kids will tease them because of their names! Don't listen to people when they say that because it's not true!!

  4. While I am not a huge fan of the names, the whole "kids will make fun of them" thing is ridiculous. Kids can find a way to make fun of any name.

  5. I don't personally like the names, but they are your children and those are the names that you and your husband gave to them. If you two are happy with that, and obviously you are because that's their names, that's all that matters. Don't worry about others opinions so much.

  6. I don't especially like them -- but then again, they don't have any special meaning for me.

The oldest boy's name at least has some specific meaning -- he's actually named after people.  The other 2 boys' names don't seem to have any particular meaning other than that you wanted their initials to be GDR and BKR.  To me they sound like you were trying too hard to be "original" and "unique" with the names and the spelling just for the sake of being "original" and "unique".  You could just as easily have named them Gary David and Brian Keith or whatever.

But MY opinion doesn't mean anything.  You chose those names because YOU liked them and yours and your husband's opinions are the only ones that matter (that and your sons, when they get old enough to decide whether they like their names or not).

  7. They're not names that I would pick out but then who cares, you're not me?!

They come across as very 'American' but more unusual than most American names I've come across and the odds-on bet is that you're from America so that's fine!

It sounds like the names are special to you andthat you put a lot of thought into it so that's what matters. And the truth is most kids don't like their middle names etc for no apparent reason no matter what you call them! I haven't met many people who genuinely love their own name.

  8. not that i would say it to your face...no way

but I really feel like you set them up for this.

But it could be worse did you hear about the Georgia football player named Knowshon?

    poor kid

no wonder he is so tough and fast

  9. Why would they be teased over their names?  I think they are all very original, have an important significance, and are very nice names.  If they get teased when they get older (most kids will at one time or another) it will probably be for a completely different reason.  My best friend gave her daughter the middle name of Arbutus after her Grandma (who was a beautiful  woman) and she is proud to have the name.

  10. i like the 1st 2 but i dont like the 3rd 1 i like brendon better

  11. Um, whoever told you that so bluntly is a big jerk, but those names ARE kinda...made up sounding and I don't like names spelled wrong to be honest...but I wouldn't say your kids will be teased.  SO many people have strange names nowadays. I don't really like those names, though.  They sound a little ghetto...It would been better if they were called:

    Jackson Tom

    Gavin Dean

    Brendan Kristopher

  12. I really like those names. I think that a lot of names will get teased but i really dont think yours will. I really think how you names your kids are wonderful! I really think that is just awesome!

  13. My friends name is clayton. Think does anything rhyme with that, hardly. Yet he still gets made fun of constantly. Another person is thomas and he gets made fun of. Think Jackson is a common name and Jaxon sounds like that. There is nothing wrong with the names they are very unique and good.

  14. They are names that I wouldn't ever pick for a child.

Simply because they'll be spelling them for people and teaching them how to pronnounce it their entire lives.

But, that's why they're your kids, and not mine.

  15. I'm all for different names, and while I may not be a huge fan of the names you chose, they do have meaning to you, and I'm all for that.  I have a nephew named Jett because his parents thought it would be a cool name, and for no other reason....  That ticks me off.

  16. Not my favorites, but you picked them for a reason.

Just wondering though- if you got only negative feedback aboutthe names.....would you change them?  Of course not!

Dont worry what other people think/say.  A name is a name if the children grow up and hate them as adults, they can get them changed.

  17. i love them all there so cute!!

  18. I love them! They are very original. When you look back at your school years, I'm sure you remember that children tease over everything, from names, to clothes, to the way they look, way they act...etc.

    Stop worrying! :-)

  19. I don't think they will be teased BUT they will have to deal with their names being mispronounced very often.

  20. Well, they don't have any dirty words that rhyme with them, so I think they'll only be made fun of if they are the type of kids people make fun of--it won't be over their name.  The only think I don't like about those names is that they will have to spell them for every single person that needs to write them down for their whole life--If the kid says "I'm Gannen", it will be written Gannon unless he tells them differently--and the same goes for most of the other kids' names.

On the whole, good names.  It is so much worse having a common name--going to a party and being the third Dave or Jim someone met that night.  Since my surname is also common, I was actually hauled out of class in high school because some t**d with the same first and last name as me was cutting class--it took ten minutes of arguing to convince the assistant principal that she had the wrong Mike.  I guess she had heard that one before.

  21. the names are fine... BUT kids are mean... don't you remember?  yes they will get teased... when they are older it will be better.

  22. I am of the belief that parents should be able to name their kids whatever they want. They are your children. If you and your husband like the names, does it really matter what anyone else thinks? Kids get teased all of the time for various reasons. Prepare your children to be proud of who they are and their unique, beautiful names. Opinions are like well... I'm sure you know the rest.

  23. Kids can be cruel little beings no matter what you name your kids. I like all of the names, at least your being different! When they get bigger it wont be such a big deal to the other kids. They have meaning to you and your husband, that's all that matters! Those names are ALOT better than Apple or some silly name like that!
