I'm gathering things in my house that I don't use anymore and am ready to get rid of, but I'm thinking are there any things you shouldn't sell? I have a bunch of unused pencils, permanent markers, highlighters that I will never use, is it okay to sell them? And are there other things that aren't right to be sold at a garage sale?

  1. Drugs

  2. Stuff you borrowed from the neighbor.

  3. Your kids.

  4. Pens & pencils are fine, especially with school starting back up.

Avoid selling underwear, that's just tacky.

    Nothing illegal

Nothing dangerous, although I have seen bow & arrows sold at a few, rifles too.

Nothing that doesn't belong to you.  The neighbor usually gets pissed if you are selling that hedge trimmer you borrowed.

Just about anything is fair game at a garage sale though.

Good luck & hope you make lots of $$$

  5. I would not sell anything you wouldn't want your family to know you own! pens, pencils, are fine!

  6. Your items are fine.  Our city puts out a handy guide that tells you some items which they don't recommend selling at a yard sale.  These include, firearms, drugs or paraphernalia, items that could spread illness or disease (they include examples like used makeup, lotions, medicine or invasive medical devices), illegal items, leased or rented items (cable boxes) or hazardous chemicals, and items that could be dangerous or unsafe.

  7. As for the pens and pencils - stick them all in a box and sell the entire box for $1 - $2. Don't try to sell them individually. It will be a pain.
