I've done ballet for about 4years and lots of foot strengthening excersises but my feet dont seem to improve its curve, especially my left foot. My big toe cant curve and the bone from my big toe seems to stick out and stop it from curving. I dunno if its genetic. But it kinda hinders my ability on pointe :( anything i can do to improve it?

  1. If it's your arch, then the only thing you can do is strengthen your foot and improve your articulation. The articulation bit will help make up for the lack of 'curve', but not necessarily improve it. If the stuff you're doing in class (tendus, etc), isn't improving your arch, there isn't a lot of other stuff you can do, besides working with a resistance band. And as for the heels... just don't. That could make your feet worse, not better.

  2. your arch?

your born with it i don't think you can drasticly change it.

  3. An impressive arch is not essential for pointe work. It makes it look good but is actually worse for pointe shoes. They will last longer before breaking completely with a slightly weaker foot. I have the opposite problem where I only teach pointe work twice a week and i go through 1 pair a term. It gets very costly as I need to get extra wide and different sizes for each foot. Strength is the most important thingfor pointe work so as long as you have that don't worry about your arch.

  4. yes!

curve..i think you mean arch :)

pile when going up to releve

    and stretch up.

you will see that your arch isn't as big when you stretch your legs

    so..

do this often and your arch will get better.

    oh!

and make sure you break in your shoes all the way before you judge your arch!

    good luck, keep dancing!

  5. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "curve", but if you mean the arch of your foot, that IS genetic. You can improve it by strengthening the muscles in your feet (tendus and other barre exercises should do this, as will releves and vertical jumps such as entrechets) but for the most part the degree of the arch is genetic and can't be changed much. It's not really a bad thing; I've seen girls with high arches whose feet are extremely weak.

  6. ahh heels to change your arch? Yeah, nahhh don't do that :)

IF the theraband isn't working then they probably won't change.

You could try these though, they go under your tights: http://www.discountdance.com/frame_set.p...

    I hope this helps :)
