Is there anyway that we can save Antarctica from being exploited?

Was reading the Time yesterday and they wrote an article about Antarctica and how Icebergs there are melting from the bottom up. Now since this land (ocean/icebergs) hasnt really been charted there is a mad rush to claim ocean. They expect oil to be where icebergs were once formed. The hunt for crude oil can effect cod in that area and cause them to migrate up farther, effecting the chain of animals that rely on them in that area. In my opinion its a little game of one person takes a cookie from the jar and then everyone else has to join in.

  1. CFCs have caused the ozone hole over the antarctic. Ozone patches up naturaly, so if we stop releasing cfc N.O.W, then in around 50 years, the ozone layer over the antarctic will be as good as new.

  2. Ok, I read your question and is very interesting. The fact that you care about that environment is very important. I think that to save Antarctica people simply need to stop searching for oil in the poles because there is not any. The only location where there is a lot of oil is in the middle east. I would also like to say that those people that answer.. " Why do you care, you are not even gonna live there"  are wrong. although, nobody is living there, Antarctica plays a big role for  the weather we have in the world. Nice question!!!!

  3. No so long as people think they have a right to destroy this world , that so freely gives itself to sustain life . "but what makes me laugh is that when she bites back they have the nerve to complain"

  4. I am serious now...why would you care...do you plan to live there or ever go there....its a big block of ice???

  5. Yes we can and the answer is simple, But Im not telling you because you will just go blab to everyone.

  6. There are only three main options that will prevent Antarctica from being exploited:

    International Laws

    Making Antarctica a World Park

Removal of Humans from the Earth

  7. I think it's a disgrace the way all these nations are trying to claim a piece of Antarctica. For over 100 years, a number of nations have shared the Antarctic for scientific purposes and without any exploitation occurring.

    Now it's changing.

I notice that South Africa seems to be the only country that previously had a chunk of the Antarctic but is not claiming it now. Good for them, if that's true.

Amazingly, South Africa is the only country on Earth to have voluntarily given up nuclear weapons too.

  8. Find out what materials will be coming from those areas and by what countries.   Then boycott the materials from anywhere and products from those countries.
