Not trying to be a smart a.. here but let me explain it to you.

These companies that offer free domain names are a hook. In otherwords they offer you a free domain name if they can plaster your site with all manner of advertisment that they get paid for.

So as you can see Nothing is completely free there is a hook in one form or another. These folks are not in buisness to give away there services.

However if you deal with a reputable company that you have to pay a small fee every month or every year to you won't have adds and you can pretty much do as you please.

Here is one of the best in my opinion, I have had them for 10 years and have never had a hiccup, I opted to download there software because it cut down on development time and writing ton's of code and HTML. there software is WYSIWYG or What You See Is What You Get. very good and easy to use, oh by the way I have Microsoft's Front Page and Adobe's Dreamweaver as well and I use there Pagemaker Software.

If you want a FREE domain  you can usually find companies that will let you have free SUB-domains. A sub-domain is usually www.website/yourfreesubdomain. A sub-domain website is okay for just blogging and personal web pages. Its not recommended to use for a like a website you plan to getting alot of traffic, or you plan on selling anything on that website.
