I just spilled some nail polish remover on my wood coffee table. i wiped it up right away with soapy water but it still has a huge spot where the varnish was eaten. Besides sanding and re-varnishing the table, is there anyway to fix the damage I did to the table?

  1. no.

polish remover stains everything because of the chemicals inside of it.

  2. No, there isn't.  It is not "on the table", but has soaked "into the table".  Polish remover does not create a stain that can be removed, but removes stains.  Hence the name "Polish Remover".  Sorry, but if you really like the table, you will either have to find a matching varnish and re-do the area, or sand and refinish.  Otherwise, cover it with a doily.  Old fashioned, I know.  And kind of grandma-ish, but those are your options.

  3. I don't know and I would also like to know how to get it off the carpet in my guest bedroom.

  4. Unfortunately, no. You did the right thing, but once the varnish is gone, about the only other thing you can do is try those pens that cover scratches on wood. You can always put a knick-knack or book or something to hide the spot!

  5. Sorry, you'll have to refinish.

  6. No nail polish removere is acetone a powerful paint thinner

which you can buy by the gallon at the paint store for a fraction of the cost of those little bottles
