I would love to help children who have no home. What can I do besides foster or adopt? Are there other options?

  1. You can volunteer your time to spend with the children.  You can help them do homework, teach them how to love reading, hold the babies so they have human contact, change diapers, finger paint, etc.  You don't have to be there 24/7 but if you are there consistently each week you can help provide them with a sense of stability.

  2. YES!  You can become a Big Sister with Big Sisters/Big Brothers!  It's like fostering on a more temporary basis -- a few hours a week.  Or, you can volunteer with an agency that places foster children.....Do respite care which is only for a few days or weeks at a time.  Or, volunteer with the state for adoption day events or parties or school drives, sorting through school clothes.  Hope this helps!

  3. Big brother and big sister programs are a great way to help a lot of kids whether they are foster kids or just kids who need someone to look up to.

  4. YES!  The big brother/big sister program is wonderful.

Another program is CASA, where you advocate for children who have been abused. (www.casa.org)

  5. Well, I was watching Oprah  the other day and there was this lady that raised pairs of pajamas, to give to foster children. You can go to oprah.com and find out where to send them, and you can  raise some pajamas for them. I think its a good idea.Just make sure they are brand new pajamas.  I hope I helped.

  6. Become a big brother/big sister.

Contact your local foster care program and find out if they have any volunteer opportunities available.

    Good luck.
