Is there anyway to see the Edinburgh Military Tattoo?

According to their website, tickets are sold out. Does anyone know if there's another way to get tickets? Or, do you know if there's a good way to see the pipers entrance into the castle or a good place to watch the fireworks for free? Or do you know of another way to hear bagpipes?

  1. wait till the next one :P

  2. Well it's annual thing happeneing just after or during the summer, the best thing is to search for downloads for it, or wtach clips on youtube :D

I'm going this year, shall be amazing :D.

  3. Just go to Edinburgh during the festival and enjoy. There are 'busking pipers' on some corner nearly all the time and most of them are good.

Hotels will be a problem, though if you are prepared to get out of the city at night then less so.

You can get a good view of the fireworks anwhere along Princes Street.

  4. You might check with some travel agencies. Some may have purchased tickets to be used in a travel package, and you might be able to get a package that includes tickets.

As far at another way to hear bagpipes, there are lots of pipe bands, pipers, and highland games where pipes are played. Google "bagpipe forum", and you can get more info from some of the forums.

  5. Go up calton hill to watch the fireworks for free. That's the one with the big fake Greek Parthenon on the top.

There are pipers everywhere on the streets; they are universally awful. I would go to a great gig such as Peatbog Faeries, Salsa Celtica or Red Hot Chilli Pipers.

There is an independent folk music shop on The Mound opposite the Bank of Scotland building that can direct you to a decent piper.

  6. if you want to see the Tattoo you need to be trying to buy tickets as soon as booking opens (not sure when that is but I'm sure you could figure it out from their website) - otherwise you're stuck with trawling the ticket agencies and seeing if they've got any tickets but be prepared to pay extortionate prices - the rest of us watch it on TV but having been there in person years ago actually being there is thrilling

if you want to be in Edinburgh during the Festival, again you need to plan well in advance, probably at least a year - half the world wants to be in Edinburgh at Festival time - at this late stage you're going to find it difficult to get accommodation unless you're prepared to stay out of town and travel in - the whole of Edinburgh is party time during the Festival, great feeling, and there will be pipers busking on the street - you can see the fireworks from anywhere along Princes Street

  7. You probably already know but you can see it on TV
