Question:

Is there anywhere you can get free vaccinations/health care for a kitten we found?? (IN Westchester, NY!)

We found a very young kitten on the street, it'll barely eat (just a little through a syringe), it has a cold, etc... but we don't have enough money for shots or anything yet, and obviously there is absolutely no option, it must go somewhere to get looked at immediately, we just don't know where to go without money. Does anyone have any idea where we could bring it, where they could at least do the initial check up, and shots for free? We really need help with this. (One of us is going to keep it, that's why we're not just giving it to a shelter or something.)

We live in Westchester, NY, but can also travel into CT if needed, Danbury, CT is very convenient, otherwise we know Ridgefield, and Brookfield is getting kind of far, but please we'll take any suggestions. But obviously, giving a suggestion in Texas is not going to help, so please none, of those!

  1. I hope this doesn't sound rude, but if you can't afford the initial checkup, can you afford to care for the cat? But I live nearby - if you want to send me an email with your situation I can put you in contact with my vet who may be able to help you.

  2. Go to the pawsofconnecticut.com website, and they should be able to direct you.

  3. I used to live in Westchester.  Try contacting the shelter in Elmsford.  They're good people there and they might be able to refer you.

You can also try the Valhalla Animal Hospital.  They're a regular vet, but I think sometimes they do discount work for charity cases.  If they can't help directly I know they are good people and might be able to refer you to those who can.

Finally, try the internet.  I know there are a lot of resources in NY.  Good luck.  Oh not sure how old the little one is, but he/she won't eat what it can't smell.  Try offering really strong smelling food.  Use a warm, moist cloth to clean its nose.  Maybe you can get more into him/her that way.  Good luck.

  4. Hope this helps
