Our television (28" CRT widescreen) is beginning to develop some faults. At the moment, all the television of that size (28-32") are HD ready and expensive, and it would be nice if we could save some money by getting a standard definition TV, which would be cheaper. However, I can't find any, not even on eBay, where people might have been selling their old ones! As we have no HD sources, and aren't likely to for a few years yet, there's no point in getting an HD television - in fact an HD television might even be worse quality due to the scaling from a standard definition source to HD resolution. So, I'd quite like to get a standard definition LCD television, in the range 28-32".

  1. What about something like this:

  2. Argos still sell CRT tvs. I don't think you're correct about the 'scaling problem' with watching 'standard' tv on a HD set; there's not a great deal of difference unless you go for a 'proper' 1080p HD set.

What you may see, especially with a cheap LCD, is a poor quality screen with dull colours, poor viewing angle, and 'smearing' of fast action. That's nothing to do with the HD/standard thing, though.

An LCD tv produced 'pre-HD' is likely to be of much worse quality than a modern one.

  3. Argos is the only place I can think of.
