I am filling out my college paperwork to attend a university now that my associates is done. FAFSA is classifying me as a dependent because I am under 24, not married, no kids and I am not in the armed services. How can I get around this?

  1. no can do

  2. Unfortunately you cannot get around this rule.  It was setup by Congress with the expectation that parents continue to contribute to their children's education if they fall within this dependency test.  Just because you live on your own, claim yourself on your taxes, or pay your own way will not change anything where the dependency test is concerned.
