why are they really discontinuing the manufacture of traditional (edison) lightglobes

  1. There is some mercury but the key is how much.  It wouldn't sniff the gas but the coal that is used to make the electricity releases mercury to the environment too.  Less coal to make less electricity is important too.  People who can't do the math or are otherwise clueless about about the real world environment ought to go back to kerosese lamps and see how many people die in the inevitable house fires.   You might say they are in the dark, where they belong.  


  2. Amalgam fillings have around 100 times more mercury than eco-friendly bulbs so they're not as dangerous as people say, but they can't be disposed of in normal household rubbish and you should where gloves if handling broken glass from these bulbs.

  3. i'm a bit of a hippy so i hate degradation of the environment.

  4. we have been duped by idiot polititions  who are yes men,these light bulbs are very dangerous if broken and inhaled,also will poison any soil down to the water table and poison the ground water.Global warming gone starkersa,along with the pollies.Cheers.

    smashed mercury bulbs all along the road on rubbish collection days..........
