Question:

Is there enough time for connecting flights?

I am arriving on an int'l. flight on Spirit Airlines into Ft. Lauderdale with a 70 min layover. Do I have enough time to go through customs, collect my bags, resubmit my bags and go through security? And do you think my bags will make the connecting flight?

  1. usually you need to have 2 hours for the lay-over (at least!). thats because of the tight security and whatnot. but dont worry about your bags, coz the first carrier would be responsible in forwarding your bags to the next flight. tip, travel light coz usually, connecting flights are the cause of delayed/misplaced bags

  2. Pray the plain is not late, pray that you can get to your bags and gate in record time.  I would change it to at least an hour and a half or so if that is possible.  Customs takes forever.

  3. An hour is usually the amount of time reserved for a layover on a domestic flight, so I would be a bit hesitant about having only 70 minutes to go through customs, etc. to catch your next flight.

  4. The important question is 'are there a lot of flights from Ft. Lauderdale to your destination'. If there are many frequent flights with your airline, then it doesn't really matter if you miss your connection because if you do, they'll just put you on the next flight. The problem usually arises if there isn't another flight for like 10 hours or something like that. In that case, what are your options? I would call the airline and confirm. It also makes a different what airport - some airports are a nightmare for connection (read: Sydney, Amsterdam - never connect through either!!!) while some are smooth sailing. So yes, look into the airline and airport (do you need to change terminals? Is it usually very busy at the time you're arriving? etc).
