I was just reading somewhere that the female hormone estrogen is in every sewer system. What does this mean for the population and why's it there?

  1. Man made chemicals, drugs, and synthetic hormones are being found in more and more bodies of water.  Some public water systems source water have been found to contain some of these compounds.  If you'll remember about the legless frogs in a river in Wisconsin.  That was thought to be caused by measurable amounts of synthetic hormones in the water.  That river flowed eventually to the Great Lakes or the Mississippi both which are are drinking water sources.

It's there because people flush things down the toilet.  It's there because they are widely used in many medications, both human and animal.

Is there estrogen in your drinking water?  Ask the local water authority to provide you with a complete chemical analysis of the untreated water for the system, including all organic and inorganic compounds being monitored.

  2. no, there is not.. haven't heard of this.. where did you read this?

  3. God no - thank god LOL

  4. In NY there was an article a few weeks ago about the medications and all sorts of stuff in the water supply. I think they are working on it though. It was in an article. The sewer system on the other hand I know nothing about.

  5. We don't drink from sewers.  Eee-ooow!

It would be in the sewer because it's in what we put in the sewer if you get my meaning.

  6. Oh, yes.  Not only estrogen, but estrogen like compounds.

  7. depends....

if it is bottled spring water or water from a pure source probably not,

but tap water or water treated at plants is a definite yes!!!

women on birth control pee, and some of that water is recycled at water treatment plants...it's actually a growing problem bc it causes hormone imbalance in pregnant women and young children

  8. It's there because a lot of people flush out their medications. It means little significance for people unless they don't drink bottled water often. But then with bottled water, you get concerns over plastic.
