Is there ever going to be a "The Sims 3" game?

I'm just wondering... I'd like to see a new game come out so all the Sims 2 expansion packs can be cheaper - just like what happened to the original Sims games when The Sims 2 came out. Does anyone know if EA Games is going to create another "The Sims" game?
