Is there fianacial help for cataract surgery?

IS THERE A EMERGENCY MEDICADE THING FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE NO MONEY BUT NEED CATARACT SURGERY, I HAVE 2 CATARACTS ON EACH EYE AND NEED SUGERGERY I WAS WONDERING IF THERE WOULD BE HELP SOME WHERE SOMEONE I COULD CALL ABOUT THIS?

  1. Have you ascertained that your Medicaid will not cover cataract surgery?  Usually that is the sort of thing that Medicaid would cover, but not on an emergent basis.


  2. A cataract is a clouded lens.  You have only 1 lens in each eye, so you can't have 2 cataracts on each eye.  The limit is one.

    Cataract surgery is almost never emergent (unless you have a certain type of glaucoma).  Medical assistance should pay for it, if you can find an ophthalmologist that accepts it.  (MA generally pays so poorly that it may be difficult to find someone who is willing to lose money on a surgery)

    Your best bet might be to call your nearest teaching hospital and ask them.  Hospitals usually have social workers who know how to get things paid, and teaching programs aren't too picky about insurance coverage.
