  1. It was bad enough with incessant requests for spookiest ghost story, psychic predictions and instructions on how to learn telekinesis cluttering up the board, but now with refugees from Religion & Spirituality throwing stuff that into the works, it really has gone to h**l (no pun intended). I see little difference anymore. But oh well, I still enjoy answering questions and I still hold out hope that my participation might help others escape the trap of mystical thinking.

  2. Semantically speaking?  Yes.

    Empirically speaking?  No.

  3. Interesting - I hadn't really checked out that section before, but now it looks pretty similar.  I stay out of that section, and out of the Horoscopes section under Entertainment, because they are labeled correctly - entertainment and myths.  Whereas THIS section is labeled 'Science'.  If they moved it to entertainment or myths, I wouldn't bother - that should give people a heads-up about what they are talking about.  However, when the horoscope people wander into astronomy, I WILL tell them it's bullshit.  And that's why I feel the need to hang out here - as long as someone might mistake it for science.

  4. I would have guessed that people on the mythology and folklore section were less deluded and understand that what they are talking about didn't have any basis in reality, just by the title.  But having just checked it, they are just as bad.  The vast majority of stuff here should be over there.  The fact that people post this stuff in the science section and then get all testy when scientific thought is applied doesn't make sense, but we aren't dealing with the most rational minds in the first place.

  5. Well, there is certainly no difference between Alternative and Mythology and Folklore. Aside from the fact that the M&F section believe in unicorns and the like. I don't think anyone in the Alternative section really even believe in those!

However I did see Deenie flaunting a picture of a Deer with one horn yesterday...

Science and Math has merit in reality, whereas this section relies purely on people misunderstanding and misinterpreting things they experience or see. If something seems to go amiss for some people their immediate reaction is "ooh, I cannot explain that, it must be a paranormal event!"

  6. There used to be a difference. Now it's mostly ghost stories,"____kinesis" questions and spooky anecdotes. It's hard to keep it scientific when that's all there is.I've been searching for some kind of decent video evidence on paranormal sites.Looking for something to ask  about. There is none, that I can find.Fundamentally,no there is no difference.
