None safely....  Even welder's shields don't stop all the harmful UV rays - so be careful.

Yes, a welder's helmet provides sufficient protection.

A number 14 welder's glass. The number 12 commonly found is not dense enough to provide adequate protection. Number 14 is only available from specialized welding supply stores.

Most telescope stores sell high quality solar filters for use with telescopes. These are more expensive than a #14 welder's glass but are made from high quality materials to preserve the telescope's resolution.

i have used a welding hood before.  make sure the lens is a 13 or greater.  and most important also wear sunglasses with the welding hood.

there's a certain little square thing that I got from school.  it's like film paper stuck to a square of wood.  we could look at a solar eclipse with it, so I would think that something like that would work. Good Luck!
