  1. The next Winter Olympics will be in Vancouver in 2010.

In 1994 the IOC moved the Winter Games' four-year cycle ahead two years in order to separate them from the Summer Games and alternate Olympics every two years.

    February 12 – 28, 2010   XXI Olympic Winter Games

    March 12 – 21, 2010   X Paralympic Winter Games

Yes, they do have an opening ceremony.

    Opening and Closing Ceremonies

The 2010 Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony will take place in Vancouver’s 60,000-seat BC Place Stadium on Friday, February 12, 2010.

The Closing Ceremony, on Sunday, February 28, 2010, will also be held at BC Place Stadium.

This will be the first time in Olympic Games history that the Olympic Ceremonies will be staged in the comfort of an indoor venue. The Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony will be held on March 12, 2010, also at BC Place Stadium, followed by the Closing Ceremony, on March 21, 2010, in Whistler.

  2. Theres an opening ceremony for every Olympics held but theres no winter Olympics in 2008. The next one will be in 2010 in Vancouver and yes there will be an opening ceremony but i won't be as massive as the one in Beijing

  3. There won't be an Olympics during the winter until 2010 when it will be held in Vancouver.

There is an opening ceremony that will be held Friday February 12th, 2010 from 18:00 to 21:00 (Vancouver, BC time I am guessing), but that is just a tentative schedule for now.

  4. ummm, no winter olympics in 2008... sorry about that... you've got a couple of years to wait till they are next on in 2010.

  5. there's no winter olympics in 2008.. it happens in 2010.. and then every 4 years after that

  6. Once both winter and summer Olympics were held in the same year. Now the IOC split them into every alternative 2 years. Therefore, the next winter Olympics will be in Vancouver - Canada 2010 and in keeping with every major sport events, there will be opening and closing cermonies.

  7. If I'm not mistaken, I don't think there are 2008 Winter Olympics.  I believe, a few years ago, the powers that be (Television) convinced the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to have the Olympics every two years on a rotating basis.  In other words, 2008 Summer Olympics, 2010 Winter Olympics, 2012 Summer Olympics, 2014 Winter Olympics, etc. In that way, people wouldn't have to wait every four years to see the Olympics (or so the media claims).  Also, a steady money flow and less work every two years (instead of twice within one year every four years) for the networks.  Everything is run by the media.  I could be wrong about the years, but I'm pretty sure that I'm correct.

  8. There is no winter olympics for 2008. They are in 2010 and yes there is always an opening and closing ceremony for the olympics, both winter and summer.
