  1. Hey I just had my wisdom teeth surgery. Removed 2 teeth, 1 of them was deeply impacted, and the root was just resting on my nerve. I feel great now though, the post-op pain only lasted on that day itself, and I've been healing fine since then. So don't worry so much, you'll be ok.

  2. Well, for me, I had a great experience with my wisdom teeth surgery. I had four impacted taken out 3 weeks ago. No pain, no swelling, no complications.

Yes, it is true that there could possibly be nerve damage, but this is very rare. It mostly depends on how deeply impacted your tooth is. If your roots are deep and come close to or even touches the nerve that runs along the bottom of your jaw line, there is a possibility that when removing the tooth, the surgeon could hit that nerve. Or sometimes, the problem will be where the surgeon injects the local anesthesia. They could hit the nerve with the needle and damage it. That's what happened to my mom. She was only getting a normal cavity fixed and the dentist injected the anesthesia in the wrong spot and hit the nerve. The right side of her lip is permanenty numb (with little tingling sensation). Some people might feel this numb for several days or weeks, but most of the time it goes away. Some people's may stay for years and still goes away. But you shouldn't be worried about it. It's a very low percentage. I don't know exactly what it is, but I remember my surgeon telling me how improbable it is that it will happen.
