  1. A lake can be a great place to camp overnight. P.S. Have fun camping.

  2. There are some good beach camping areas withing about 1/2 hr of Carlsbad and might just be stretching the 1 1/2 hr drive but not by much.  There is San Elijo near Encinitas and also Doheney NP in Dana Point (which is a really nice spot that I've been camping at many times).

  3. There are many different choices for camping withing an hour or so of Chula Vista.  You can choose from beachside camping, lakeside camping...or the mountains.  (Even the desert in Winter).

This site has info on places to camp and links for making reservations at each of them:  http://www.sandiego-romantics.com/San-Di...

  4. No not in the city of San Diego, lived there 23 yrs..

  5. De Anza Campland on the Bay.

In Pacific Beach on Mission Bay. You can tent camp or park an RV.

  6. any of the state parks along the beach would work good, also there are several national park campgrounds inland in the foothills and mountains.
