  1. Yes, you can purchase internet access while on the Norwegian Cruise Line for a fee.  Depending upon where you are taking a cruise to, cell phones may be rented, in some instances, while you are on your trip.  Find the trip that you really want to take and then seek out those specific answers once you have found which cruise package you would like to buy.   Sometimes depending on the type of cruise package, if you buy a premium package, you may be these and other items included in the amenities portion of your trip.  I hope that this has been helpful to you.

  2. Yes, there is Internet access.  It is going to cost around 75 cents per minute or you can buy a "package rate" for a little less.

When you are at sea, cell phones do not work.  You do not have a satellite phone, I presume.  Cell phones require a cell tower.

In port, your cell phone can be used.  Outside the US, you will have to have a provider that has international access.  Check the roaming charges.

Use a pre-paid phone card in foreign ports.  It is easy and cheap.

  3. Yes.  NCL has an internet cafe on (I think) all of their cruise ships.  The ships manufactured after 2001 (Pearl, Pride of Hawai'i, Jewel, Dawn, Star, Pride of America, and Pride of Aloha) all do anyway.  Certain rooms also have internet access.  The internet cafe charges 10 cents a minute for internet access and the rooms with internet are free, but they're pricier rooms.  Cell phones work the same as normal, if you have coverage you can use them, if not, then no.  But there's no rule against cell phones.

  4. I went on a Carnival cruise in August.  We had no cell phone access as there were no towers in the ocean ;) but they did have an internet cafe.  They provided laptops, or you could bring your own.  The internet access came at a price though.  I don't remember exactly now, but we did have to pay to check email and such.  Enjoy your cruise!  I know I did!

  5. NCL does have cell service on all ships fleet wide.  The service is only active underway.  Talk to you cellular service provider before you leave on your cruise - your phone will be roaming INTERNATIONALLY when you're onboard the ship even if you are in US waters.  This means it could cost you a lot of money if you use your phone onboard, even if you just text instead of calling.

NCL also has internet cafe's on all ships and WiFi hot spots.  On some ships there 100% WiFi coverage.  Internet access isn't cheap, usually in the area of $40+ an hour, it's also not fast.  It'll be faster than  your normal dial-up connection but slower than the average broadband connection.

  6. Norwegian has internet cafe's on the ships. You sign up and pay for a package giving you various minutes on the internet or can pay for per minute access (but this is the most expensive). Keep in mind that the per-minute price even with the packages is expensive in comparision to normal internet service (ie. you might pay $25/month at home for umlimited access where on the ship $25 might get you 2 hours - can't remember the prices)

As far as cell phones working. They work when you are close to land and they can hit a tower. However, also keep in mind that some cell phone plans have high international roaming charges. But if you are close to land and while in a port, yes, cell phones work, have used them on several Eastern and Western Caribbean islands along with Hawaii.
