Is there is a link between gestational diabetes & kids not telling colours apart?

I have 5 kids & gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with two of them. The last one being worse. I've always taught left/right, numbers & colours whenever doing something with them eg/ when putting on clothes/shoes, playing with blocks etc. Even my 5 yr old, who has slight brain damage, knew all her colours (including grey) before she was 4. I feel my youngest is up to where she should be in her development with everything else, but she's having a hard time with most of her colours (she knows purple well). Even the basic blue, red, green & yellow is hard for her sometimes. Could my having gestational diabetes at the time be a factor to her not seeing the colour differences? I've heard diabetes can affect eyesight. She was placed in the NICU when born as she wasnt holding her blood sugar levels on her own.

She's 4 btw sorry

  1. No, I have never heard of any correlation between the two. My son is 3½ and a very bright little boy, but he has a big problem with being able to identify his colours.

  2. I think they're colour blind.  Very few people who are colour blind are blind to all colours. The usual colours that people have difficulty with are greens, yellows, oranges and reds. Colour blindness is inherited, affecting more boys than girls. Out of 20 boys, it is likely that one or two will have a colour vision problem.
