  1. Yes, there are several anti-anxiety medications that would help, along with psychotherapy.  Anti-depressants also have an anti-anxiety effect, depending on the medication.  Just tell your doctor about your symptoms and see what they say.

  2. Yep, for example Paxil. It's most effective to use them in combination with counseling. Also keep in mind that they tend to take several weeks to start having noticeable effects, and you & your doctor might have to make adjustments to the dosage, etc. to avoid side effects.  Just have a realistic expectation that it probably won't work overnight.

  3. While there are medications for anxiety disorders -- typically called anxiolitics -- for social anxiety one of the SSRIs is most commonly used.  (These are the same medications often used to treat depression and OCD.)

HOWEVER, we've got over 40 years of research now that clearly shows that medication and/or psychotherapy alone is no where near as effective as the combination of the two.

  4. of course there are. usually anxiety is highly correlated with depression as well. my advice would be to first talk to a therapist and see if its an enviornmental issue, rather than just first assuming it has to do with your neurological state.

  5. yes. my doctor put me on effexor xr. It makes me feel dizzy when i forget to take it but its been helping me with my anxiety.

  6. yes my yahoo neighbor, there is, thank God.  Go to your family doctor, or get a family doctor and tell he or she the above.  There is help, you don't have to live that way. Been there.
