There's these hair-like things in the bottom of my sax. I'm pretty sure it's mold.

Anyways,, how can I get rid of the mold?

  1. Can you reach the mould with a tooth brush? If so, work two tablespoons of bi-carbonate soda into a paste with a little water. Rub the paste over the affected area, then add one tablespoon of white vinegar. Sluice the liquid all over the mouldy area. You may need to add more vinegar. Wipe well with an old pair of nylons. Rinse out with hot water. Dry. Rub the entire area with "Oil of Cloves". This is a natural mould inhibitor.

  2. Hello there,

I am not sure if the inside of your saxophone has mold,  but if it does, this is very unhealthy for you.  It could make you very sick.  Let me ask you.... do you use one of those stuff-its inside of your horn?   I know that this will cause mold to develop and grow.   If you have one.....  throw it out and do not replace it with another.

You should take your instrument into a repair shop and let the technician get in there with some of his equipment and clean and sanitize it.  This is something to take care of as soon as possible as mold is made up of spores that will disperse into the air every time you blow into it.  Not only could you make yourself sick, but other people as well.

If it really is mold,  the spores are also on your pads and in the case...and that is why I advise you to get your horn professionally cleaned as soon as you can.  As far as I know... this is a serious matter.

    Hope it was helpful.

    Thank you for reading.
