i was thinking about buying a scooter (piaggio mp3-500), and i was wondering if there is a chance it would be stolen, i plan to only use it to get to college, and work (Honda Center-Anaheim, CA). so i hear all those stories about bikes getting stolen in mini vans and so on.. but i was just wondering about larger bike..

  1. Usually, if you're going to steal a bike, you go for something that can be parted out for significant money.  Sportbikes are best because they get dropped more than any other, primarily because of the average age of the sportbike rider.  Plastics and covers are the first to go, along with turn signals and mirrors, so you can make good money if you steal bikes that are popular and often have cosmetic damage.

I just don't see enough Piaggio scooters out there to make it a prime candidate for theft.  I'm not saying it'll never get stolen, I'm just saying that a Piaggio scooter is the equivalent of the fat chick in the night club, you pass it up until there's no other option available.

  2. If someone wants to steal it thay will. The main thing you can do is to make it harder. The harder you make it the more tha,ll leave it alone.I dont know the need for parts of the MP3 yet, but the more comman  the bike is the more likely some one will need to steal it for parts.Scorpio makes a gr8 alarm..Theres also rotor locks. It being a neat bike will proubly make some one want to steal it just cause it,s so neat.Just make it hard for them.Ride safe.
