Is there mouth guard for people with dentures,?

what is a mouthguard for is it to protect the teeth or the jaw or both

both, it prevents the teeth from grinding onto each other to prevent chipping/breaking...but as far as for dentures, i have no clue

If you have dental insurance it may cover a custom mouth guard for you. Check with them and talk to your dentist. I am recovering from the removal of two plates and sixteen screws from my lower jaw after having it broken a year ago (wanna see the hardware?). Partly because I went cheap and cheated myself by cutting it down so I could breath easier.

If you have to go store bought I like Shock Doctor. It fits well, and may work out for your 'cousin'. Most sporting goods store and even most Walmart's carry them.

Just take out the dentures. Mouth guards are for protection from broken teeth and also shock absorption from jaw strikes. Take out the dentures and popin a regular mouth guard

I'm sure there is. It might be a custom type item, but "hollywood" Dan Henderson has dentures (I don't think it's top & bottom) and he wears a mouth guard. I wouldn't think it would be a typical item in a store which sells MMA gear. However, given the physical nature of the sport, it's certainly possible that some of the combatants have had a good # of their teeth knocked out in rare instances.

As for it's purpose it is generally used for 3 reasons, #1 to protect the teeth, #2 to protect the jaw from being broken , #3 to protect the fighter from concussion. If a fighter were to get hit with mouth open he would likely suffer a broken jaw, biting down on the mouth guard minimizes the likelyhood of this, also while the jaw it clamped on the guard the rubber acts at a shock absorber of sorts to prevent brain trauma.
