Is there much risk in eating partially mouldy bread?

I had toast this morning with blue bacteria / fungi but i was so hungry i didnt care.. okay so i scraped it all off, but im wondering what are the chances of gettng sick from eating mouldy (or just a little mouldy) bread? with the blue / white stuff on it..

and does anyone know what the usual sort of microbes grow on the bread? i.e. the type of fungi / bacterium.

  1. mold on bread is fine to eat if you toast it, the heat kills off all the germs, it might taste a bit funny if its really moldy but its still fine to eat and you won't get sick.

    Its also fine to just cut moldy bits off if you aren't toasting or frying the bread.


  2. Normally, bread mold is harmless, it just tastes really bad. So if you could stand the taste, your past the worst.

  3. There are various types of mold that grow on bread. Typical species include Aspergillus niger (a black mold), and various species of Penicillium (usually green), plus others.

    There is very little risk from ingesting moldy bread. You probably do it all the time without noticing it anyway. If you inhale large quantities of Aspergillus spores you can have breathing problems, but it's EXTREMELY unlikely that you could find enough mold in you house to pose a risk.
