  1. The entrence exams are usually really easy too

  2. You start Secondary School at 12/13 years old,and there's 6 years so usually you finish at 18/19.

There's an entrance exam, though they're prob finished already if you want to start in september, but you should enquire and they'll sort out something.

You do a state exam called the Junior Cert in Third year and another in 6th year, called The Leaving Cert..it's really important for college.

If you come here, you could be starting in 2nd year.

    Good Luck!

  3. no not just for 14-16 year olds

there are schools for kids aged 12/13-18/19 called secondary school.

  4. its called a secondary school for kids aged 12/13-18/17 and yes theres an entrance exam

  5. Heres a list of the secondary schools in Kilkenny City:

    Presentation Secondary School

    St Kierans College

    Kilkenny City Vocational School

    CBS Secondary School

    Mother of Fair Love

    Loreto Secondary School

    Kilkenny Primary Schools Archive Project

Entrance exams are usually held any time around now so my advice would be to ring up to find out about dates for the exam. It could also be listed in the local papers (Kilkenny People, Kilkenny Voice)

  6. The education of students aged 12 to 18 years is catered for in the post-primary sector of education. Attendance at post-primary school is compulsory for students who are under 16 years.

you can leave after the junior certificate but over 80 per cent stay on

Most children starting second-level (called post-primary) education in Ireland begin school at the age of 12 or 13 years. There are a number of different types of post-primary school.

is the link for a list of schools in kilkenny

If you are in south co kilkenny you may want to look at schools in Waterford as well

Transistion year is optional in some schools complusory in others - its basically a less academic year or as my son called it a 'good doss'

junior cert goes from 12-15 ish - the first 3 years then there is transistion year then there the dreaded leaving cert 16-18 for 2 years which is kinda focussed

    good luck

  7. There's two schools in Ireland

Primary School which is for 4/5 years olds, students stay there till they are around 11/12 years old

And the next school you go to is a Secondary School for 12/13 year olds that stay there till they're 17/18 years old

Most schools have some kind of entrance exam although most of the time they don't affect whether you get in the school or not it just decides what level you are at and it helps organize classes

I can't really remember the one I took but I don't think it was hard it was basic stuff

  8. You attend secondary school in Ireland from approximately age 12/13 to approximately age 18.

Some schools have entrance exams, but it's not a state thing, more to find the right level for the individual child.
