Is there one particular type of flower that can grow in hard conditions?

I want to get a tattoo about overcoming hardships, and I was thinking a flower growing out of a sort of rocky terrain... but I was wondering if anyone knew of a specific flower that does that? So there are multiple layers of symbolism involved, I want to kind of stay true to the meaning/realism of the flower itself. Thanks a lot!!

  1. I've heard a lot about rock lilies lately. I plan on planting a few myself. Apparently they can grow about anywhere. That's why they are called "rock" lilies. They don't need a whole lot of care either. Where I live, they bloomed everywhere this year.

  2. the only one i can think of is a cactus plant which can grow flowers as of now....i would have to look into that one

  3. Aside from cacti that tend to grow in arid conditions there is another group of plants called  Alpines that are plants that grow in harsh conditions on mountainous terrain often buried in snow for considerable periods. These tend to be small, low-growing plants and many have beautiful flowers. Examples are Cyclamens (the small ones), Gentians, Alyssum, types of Asters etc. Google Alpines to find sites that list these and show pictures.

Here are 3 sites with a lot of images of alpine flowers,  they bloom best in harsh conditions, rocky soil.  if you see one that looks like a good tattoo, google it and see if it has a special significance in the language of flowers.
