  1. Like the people say below, cell phones work on most ships now.  On one cruise, we were on a tour where one guest called home for every time the bus stopped for us to take pictures.  This woman took cell phone pics and sent them home.  At the time, her only location where she could not contact home was Aruba.

  2. Your best OPTION to CELL PHONEs is to buy yourself some international phone cards and call once you are in port. There are phones on the dock.

  3. Most ships are equipped to let you use your cell phone, at the rate you'd pay for international roaming if you were overseas.  Usually $2.50 a minute, $5 or so for T-Mobile.

However, you'll need to check that your specific cell phone provider and the ship you're going on have an agreement.  There are links to each of the major cell phone companies' ship pages, and info about the costs, here:

  4. Call your cell phone company and ask them.

We have Verizon and they told us where the best places were to use the phone, based on what ports we were in.

For example, in Cozumel, the rate is like 99 cents a minute if you are off the ship.

Royal Caribbean and Verizon have agreements and have access from the ship.

We made two calls from the ship that were a total of about 15 minutes and it cost us about $30 total.
