I am required to get unlimited liong distance for my home based job. I was told by my trainer that most companies advertise as unlimited but there is a 'cap off' at 5000 minutes. They found that out when some of their agents received a high bill even though they had subscribed to an unlimited ling distance plan. Does anyone know of this happening. I am trying to get my telephone company to put this in writing i.e. no cap off on their long distance but I am having major issues, I am not surprised. I live in TN and the only long distance companieswe ahve are ATT and Charter. I also looked in their terms of service but nothing was listed there, after reading thier policy I found that they could limit you if go 'beyoond reasonable usage', . Any help would be appreciated..

  1. Unlimited calling services almost always have a cap.  They rarely advertise it or tuck the terms and conditions somewhere you don't usually look (without really digging to find).

I only use VoIP services (which is always cheaper than PSTN) .  Many VoIP services advertise "Unlimited Calling".  But, in reality, it almost always has a limit.  Some companies limit at 1000 minutes, others limit at 2000 - 5000 minutes.  So, you need to get them to spell it out for you.

If you are doing it for business purposes, you will almost certainly need to sign-up under their "Business Plan".  Most services put a much lower limit on "Unlimited" calling on the Home plans.  Business Plans will have a higher limit.

They (or at least some) will even clearly state (but not always) that the home plan cannot be used for business purposes...

  2. I use an American company for my phone service here in the UK, and I have just called the parent company in the US, I do have connections in the company, and I was told that they have unlimited packages and those packages do not have any limits.

The company can give you a service in Tennessee either normal land line or through their own voip service, which does not require you to have a computer just a broadband connection.

If you would like me to put you in touch with the company send me an email, and I will forward on more details.

  3. ALL "unlimited" plans have limitations, especially when paying residential rates...

if you have high volume calling, especially during peak hours, they may require you to have business rated lines...

for you, you may be satisfied with paying a flat rate, but if the amount of calling that you are doing is costing your phone provider, of course they are going to take corrective action...

5000 minutes is 83-1/3 hours.... that is ALOT of outgoing calls, most business lines (aside from telemarketing, and collections) are incoming calls.. who could possibly need more minutes then that??
