I keep hearing stuff about he Mayan calendar ending its 13th cycle and the world coming to an end December of 2012 is there any scientific backing to this or is it mostly religous and probably not going to happen just like Y2K didnt happen.

  1. a very small chance. Highly unlikely the world will end in 2012

  2. it wont, all that is nonsence. its not going to end, its possible in the year 3,000.

  3. The only things that could bring that about are a massive volcanic eruption, nuclear holocaust, or epidemic disease. The Mayan calendar is entirely superstition, so don't let it make your panties get all bundled up in a tight wad.

  4. The Mayan's did not state that it would be the end of the world. They said it would be the end of one era in their calender. Mass hysteria from the general public says it will be the end of the world. h**l, for all we know they died off before they could complete the calender. I mean come on, do you have a 2020 calender sitting around your house? Let me give you an example of a news paper taking something NASA said and turning it into a doomsday scenario. Look at all the planet x BS that went around. It's going to destroy the world! blah blah blah. Well, no it's not because it doesn't exist. And what started it. A news paper took two scientists saying it COULD be a planet (completely forgetting the part where he said it could be a galaxy and they weren't really sure) and ran with it.  When there is a comet or a nuclear war I'll worry. Until than, I'm not holding my breath.

  5. its a lie dont believe it seriously there is no chance the Mayans  were off 30 seconds with the lunar, and with this one probably 30....years or 300 years, who knows. but its not going to end so forget about it.

  6. Well statistically speaking the world has a chance of ending by the time you finish this sentence.

Many things are supposed to happen during that year.  The big one is that the Mayan calender ends in December of 2012.  Some people take this literally as the "end of time" but the calender is actually supposed to restart every few thousand years.

The earth is also supposed to align with our galaxies center or something of the sort.

It's not towards the end of the year, but at the beginning of the year 2012 were supposed to come very close to a very big "Near Earth Object", an asteroid I think.

Their is also "supposed" to be a massive shift in human consciousness around 2012 (this is another Mayan thing).

I think it's more like the end of the world "as we know it".  Meaning we're in for a big change as an Earth wide society (it's either that or bust at this point)...of course if the world keeps going like it is now we're likely to blow ourselves right off the planet by the time 2012 ever gets here.

But hey what do I know, Either way just live life like no other.

  7. Its all speculation, Just like Nostradamus. Ancient people predict the world ending then We run with it. Just like The dead will rise in the year 2006, I haven't seen one Zombie yet. So I think its safe to say the world is not going to end in 2012

  8. The Mayan calendar placed this year as a year of spiritual enlightenment, or the start of such a period.

There is a chance, but no more than the world ending right now.

  9. Y2K was government made up. and everything the mayans have said has come true.....you believe what you want but i think something is bound to happen....

    dont freak out tho.

as long as you live life to the fullest...

it shouldnt matter when you die.

  10. Yes there is a chance.  There is a chance the world as we know it could end tomorrow.  No, there is no scientific backing for this that I have ever seen.  It is mostly a religious prophecy and although I have not read it or its sources, it is probably open to interpretation (like most prophetic writings).

  11. None of us really know when the world will end. If you look at the many predictions made by many have come true. The world ends for each of us individually

  12. these things come out every few years and people think the world is going to end based on some supposed ancient prediction

  13. "Is there a chance..."

The answer to ANY question that begins with these words is yes, unless one has absolute proof that it is impossible.

However, in this case, it is highly improbable.

The Meso-American Long Count calendar arrives at the end of its 12th cycle and begins the 13th.  It is also the end of a long count and the beginning of the next one.

The Mayan calendar (which, purists would say, ended with the Mayan civilization) was a yearly calendar, just like ours, where the year began on the day of the Winter Solstice.

There is no scientific backing to any claim about the end-of-the-world and no religious backing from any still-existing religions.

There is a small probability that one of the Meso-American cultures (maybe the Mayans) had a belief about the end of the long count (every 5200 years or so) being a time for their gods to evaluate their creation and start a new one if needed.  However, the only "evidence" of this belief is in the Popol Vuh, a book that was brought back by a Spanish priest from a visit to mountain villages.  Strangely enough, the original (as described by the priest) was written in Latin alphabet -- our alphabet -- which was unknown to the Mayans.

This original was since lost and the only thing left is a translation by that same priest.  The text in the translation sounds a lot like our own Bible.  Hmmmmm.

Some of the (very minor) things that had been predicted for Y2k really did happen (all of them minor computer glitches); some of them had been postponed by a year by "patches".

Some of the minor things will also be true for 2012:  there will be a solar activity maximum, just as there is one every 11 years.  So, there could be a geomagnetic storm that causes problems with satellites, communications or electricity.  There was a major power failure in March 1989 (2 maximums ago) that was caused by a geomagnetic storm.  So these things are possible.

Other than that, nothing.  Just like Y2k.

  14. STOP ASKING!!

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

THE WORLD IS NAWT GOING TO END!

  15. If u do... Then u should live ur life to the fullest, confess ur undying love to that special one, forgive, relive, get that Porche that u wanted, meet that movie star.. etc.. u know..

  16. yeah why not?!  there's tons of asteroids and comets hurtling through space which we still have yet to discover or properly track/ estimate their pathes. one could easily come bump uglies with earth in 2012 and turn out the lights for everyone perminantly.

[what's also interesting is that the roman callender we use (2008 A.D) is based off the assumed birthdate of christ, which in 1994 was estimated to be off by about 12 years.]

  17. I don't think you have to worry. And think about it, when the Mayan's made that Calendar did they actually say "The world will end in 2012" or did they just stop after 2012? Maybe they just got sick of counting and making that darn calendar and thought wow that's a wicked long time from now, why think that far!!! lol

  18. As much chance of it as that pigs will fly then. No one really knows when any of the many Mayan calendar cycles begin or end, since the Mayans are not here to explain them to us. One cannot really give such precise dates as 12/21/12 based only upon wild guesses. This prediction is not scientific and not religious at all. It is just some nonsense a charlatan invented, comparable to the Bermuda Triangle. I asked who started this silly stuff on YA. No one knew. All they told me was the same tired "kuso" I have heard dozens of times. I bet 11 men $1000 apiece that doomsday will not be in 2012. I "put my money where my mouth is". No one on YA has accepted my bet. Only drunkards in bars have bet against me thus far.

  19. Chance for the world to end in 2012?  Nil.  Zilch.  Zero.  It is a false rumor.  So do not worry.  Do not be scared.  I assure you that the world will not end on 2012 December 21 but it will end one day.  Remember that if there is a beginning, there is an end.

There is no “Planet X coming towards our sun.”  Another false rumor.  Please read on what will happen and the good outcome after the war which maybe “the next level of existence.”

Nostradamus’ prophecy of when the world will end is far into the future, past about 3700.  This is in agreement with what I heard and learned from the Holy Spirit—that there will only be about 144,000 around AD 2200, peace reigns for a thousand years till around AD 3200, and then Satan will be released to test the descendants of the elect for about 500 years.  After that, the end will come.

The Mayan’s Mesoamerican Long Count calendar forms the basis for a New Age belief, first forecast by Jose Arguelles, that a cataclysm will take place on or about 2012 December 21 (Wikipedia).  Mainstream Mayan scholars consider “cataclysm” or “apocalypse” as a misinterpretation for to the Mayan scribes, it literally means uncovering or revealing.

The Long Count has 360 days in a year called “Tun”.  A “Tun” has 18 months or “unials” and each “unial” has 20 days.  Twenty (20) Tuns is a Katun and 20 Katuns is a Baktun (144,000 days or about 400 solar years).  Thirteen (13) Baktuns is a “Great Cycle” of 1,872,000 days (5,200 Tuns or about 5,125 solar years).  The Great Cycle in the proleptic Gregorian calendar started on 3114 BC August 11 (day 0.0.0.0.0) and ends on 2012 December 21 (day 13.0.0.0.0) – winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.  The Great Cycle restarts the next day (day 0.0.0.0.0).  The representation of the Great Cycle of the Mayan Long Count calendar is as follows: (13 Baktuns.20 Katuns.20 Tuns.18 Uinals.20 days).

In the book of Revelation, it tells us about a period of a thousand years of peace. Has this occurred already since the time of Jesus?  Not yet. That will still come. Those that give predictions of the world’s end, such as 2012 and numerous times during the past, are pseudo-preachers. Have they talked to God directly? If so, give proofs.

But there is something that will certainly happen—and that is our physical death. This is what we should prepare for. It may come when least expected. We do not know the day and the hour. It will come like a thief in the night. So we just have to be prepared all the time. Search for the true God and when we find Him, follow His commandments and remain in Him until our last dying breath.

This is all that we have to do. It is faith in the true God that we can take with us when we depart from this world. If we denied Him, He will deny us also before the Father in Heaven and send us to h**l. This is very scary – to live in h**l forever.  If we knew Him and loved Him and followed His commandments, then He may reward us to live with Him eternally in His kingdom in Heaven. This is the survival kit that we should have.

Did you know that in his or her boredom, “Thanks for reading this” theorized in Yahoo Answers, Religion & Spirituality section, that 2012 is 20 + 12 = 32, the approximate age of Jesus when He was crucified and died?  I answered that when Jesus died, He was actually 32 solar years old, equivalent to 33 lunar years.  Details are in http://www.geocities.com/peacecrusader88...  Is this a sign that God is warning us of the impending calamity around 2012, like the end of the Mayan’s calendar cycle?  But I repeat, 2012 is not the end of the world yet.

The Holy Spirit also told us that beings from another planet will take only the marked good people out of this world.  I asked Him if it’s a million.  He said much less than that.  Then I asked if the number is the one mentioned in Revelation and He affirmed it.  A few weeks ago this year, 2008, as I was reading Revelation, I came across Revelation 14:3 to wit (King James Version):  ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€ÂœAnd they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.”  ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€ÂœRedeemed from the earth” means saved from the earth.  And there were 144,000 of them.  This must be what the Holy Spirit was referring to several years ago.  His advice to all: leave their wicked way of life and change their way of thinking.  We should come back to the true God before it’s too late.  (I read in Isaiah 55:7 this message, to wit (KJV): “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”)  Be good then so that we may be considered to be among the 144,000 who will be saved, and later will restart and repopulate this world.  The Holy Spirit told us to tell people about this prophecy even though they accuse us as being out of our minds.  He assured us that this will happen, similar to Noah’s prophecy of the Great Flood which took a hundred years before it was fulfilled.  The vessel that Noah used to be saved was an ark.  This time, another kind of vesssel will be used to save the elect.

What is also certain to happen very soon (in about 2012 or earlier) is World War III and this is a nuclear war.  This “calamitous war” (as Nostradamus called it) will start from the Philippines, at Spratly Islands in particular.  The Spratly Islands lie on the southeast part of the South China Sea mostly near the coast of the Philippines.  The Holy Spirit told us that the Philippines is the wick of a gas lamp.  Once the wick is lit, it will be on and aglow.  He told us about this prophecy about two decades ago.  He said that the troubles in the Philippines will spread to the whole world until mankind is almost annihilated and a few will remain.  Spratly Islands are being claimed wholly by China, Taiwan and Vietnam; and partly by Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines.  The area is considered a tinderbox, a flash point.  It is very rich in oil and gas resources, estimated to be more than the reserve of Kuwait.  The high price of oil may trigger the grabbing of these islands and start the war.

Four independent prophecies point to the certainty that this will happen.  These are Nostradamus’ prophecies to happen around this time (quatrains 6:24 and 2:62) , the 56th Chinese prophecy of Tui Bei Tu (the past 55 prophecies have already been fulfilled) found at http://www.alexchiu.com/philosophy/corp3... and Wikipedia, Revelation 9:18 of the Holy Bible, and those that the Holy Spirit revealed to us.  If you are interested in the details about these prophecies, please send me your request via email.

After the calamitous war, we will have a new age, a spiritual awakening or enlightenment, and peace will reign for a long time.  The population would have been reduced by a third and there will be much arable land that will be available.  People will be living in planned cities and communities.  Would you like to live in a city where the land is free and you are guaranteed possession of the land for 50 years, renewable, and which you can bequeath to an heir?

The Holy Spirit has given His prophecies and these are what will happen.  Be rest assured then that the world will not end yet.  But please, heed what He advises us to do—to change our wicked way of life and change our wrong beliefs.  Come back to the true God.

I am just sharing with you what I heard and learned from the Holy Spirit.  The decision to believe Him or not depends upon yourself.  I am not forcing anyone to believe in what I share.  It is not my responsibility to save you or anyone, but the person’s.

Isaiah 35:4 (KJV) states: “Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you.”

  20. scientists, religious leaders and astrologists have been predicting the end of the word for centuries. none of us will actually know until it happens. i would just recommend living your life the best you can so when it happens you go to the right place.

  21. remember y2k ridiculous just another day

  22. There is no actual scientific theory or evidence that anything unusual is going to happen in 2012. It is a collection of myths and disproven theories being promulgated by doomsday predictors, who predict a new one every few years. The longer explanation is below:

It is based on the end the current cycle of the Mayan long count calendar. No doomsday was predicted and the Mayan civilization died out.

Niburu (Planet X) doesn't exist. Zecharia Sitchin is an author of books promoting the ancient astronaut theory for human origins. He attributes the creation of the ancient Sumerian culture to the Annunaki (or Nephilim) from a hypothetical planet named Nibiru in the solar system. The Doomsayers predicted that it was to hit Earth in 2003. When it didn't show up, they just moved it out to 2012 to coincide with the end of the Mayan calendar.

Galactic Alignment - takes 36 years to precess through galactic equator, we will be 6 degrees off in 2012.

Asteroid Apophis - the 2001 alert was for 2029, and was canceled after additional observations showed it would not hit us.

Polar Shift - the magnetic poles are moving all the time. Polar reversal happens over thousands of years.

Passage through a "photon belt" has been added. This is also untrue and wouldn't hurt us if it were. Photons are merely units of light.

Solar flares happen all the time and we have more of them at some times than others. They haven't caused any serious problems in the past. The direct effects of solar flares are mainly related to communications and radio transmissions. We had a major series of solar flares in 2005. Did you notice anything? I didn't.

  23. Dear gods, quit asking this!  There will be no end of the world, unless reality just decides to c**p out on us.

  24. it's seriously not going to happen. people have been saying that forever. its just BS.

  25. Well, the Mayan Calendar has to end sometime. Nothing is going to happen in  2012 and both the scientific facts and religious facts aren't enough proof. If 2012 were really the end, we would have known about this like 50 years ago. No human being or even the most brillant scientist who says the world is ending in 2012 is always wrong. Nobody could ever predict the end of the world. You'll be fine and don't worry!!

Now stop asking if 2012 is the end!!!
