  1. Yes - premium balls ( @ $45 - 50 ie; ProV 1,Nike 1, Bridgestone B330, Callaway HX tours) are "high spin" - which is good for working the ball (draw / fade) and spinning wedges.

mid - level balls (@ around $25 ie; Titelist NXT Tours, Bridgestone E5/E6's, Callaway HX Hot's) are medium spin, so poor stuck balls fly straighter - the spin doesn't exaggerate  a hook or slice.

Cheaper balls  - (Less tan $20 ie; Noodles, Titleist DTso/los, Callaway Big Berthas, Pinnacles, Precepts) exaggerate distance - slower / weaker swinger can hit the ball further.

Most average golfers are fine with mid range and below balls.

  2. the most consistently used piece of equipment in golf is the ball. Yes, it makes a big difference. if you want to be more consistent, use the same ball more consistently. If you want to get serious, you can get fitted for a ball the same way you get fitted for clubs..

Take some time on golfreviews.com and you'll be able to learn about some different balls.

  3. In my opinion there are like 3 different categories of balls being made to day.  The Premium balls,  Prov1 and x,  Nike One, Bridgestone b330s, and Srixon Zur or something like that.    The next level is for the noodles, etc,  finally there are what I call the rocks.....balls that are so hard you may as well be hitting a rock.

  4. Yes there really are huge differences.

  5. Yes!! There is a decided difference in golf balls and those players with the highest swing speeds go for the more expensive ball. My  speed is about 90 to 92 mph so my ball is either the lower compression ball like the Titleist So-Lo or the" Findums "which are usually as good. I don't spin the ball and have a Sam Snead cadence which suits me just fine.

  6. Unless you are a pro or a really competitive golfer, I wouldn't get caught up in getting the most expensive ball out there (Titelest Pro V1, etc). A few sleeves of Pinnacle's will do. Plus, you end up finding balls like these all the time on the golf course so now you get some spare ones for free.

  7. Definitely.  Golf balls are different, some are designed to reduce spin and maximize distance, and others are designed to give more feel, spin more to give better players control around the green.

  8. Well both yes and no. Yes because the middle of the golf balls are different, some golf balls may have a 2 piece, 3 piece, and now even a 4 piece layers. Then no because the over all golf ball looks the same. There big reason that golf ball are so expensive is you pay for the name like Titleist, Callaway, and Nike. There is better technology in the more expensive golf balls which can make you hit better. They help your game by maybe hitting farther or spinning. If you are on a budget though i would strongly suggest for you get the new 3 piece top flite golf ball, the reason why is i did a test on them. What i did is i took a pro v1 and this top flite and dropped them form the same height onto concrete and the Top Flite bounced about a foot higher than the pro v1 did.
