Difference

By C.S. Scotkin

I think about men,

their mystery, to fathom.

surely even Eve

did ponder about Adam.

So differing from we

women concerned with nurture

need not conquest

to bear the specie’s future.

Progenitors fight,

colors on their shield, the field

of battle, are posed

to win procreators right.

Both sing Nature’s song

of life and love, harmony

having been so shaped

by ancient biology.

  1. Good poem...

    Welcome to Our World, Baby!

  2. Great poem.  Each s*x has its strengths and weaknesses.  Biology is a factor regardless of the nay sayers.  And I wouldn't have it any other way!

  3. I really like this one!

One cannot exist without the other.

On second thought, with technology what it is...

  4. Observe the males in nature.  The bird - who fluffs his feathers - spreads his wings - sings his song - does his dance - all to attract his lady love.  The combatant males (deer, sheep, seals, lions, etc) who wage physical bouts of strength for the rights to breed.  All along - the female is passive until the time of breeding - then is her right to select or walk away. Oh - I love being a girl ♥

  5. I enjoyed your poem and the questions you pose. I have my own take on this subject, I have actually shortened it from a significantly longer piece.

Women desire them, d@mned if I know why!

Trust, honesty, commitment... in a man,

A lone coin standing on edge

among many tossed is easier found.

Communicate with them if you dare,

Hear about their obsessions related to balls of all kinds.

There's foot and basket and base and golf, ... and my two.

I wonder how the car escaped this world of the round.

Once, just once, you wish they knew how a period, a pregnancy felt.

The displeasure's of one, the pleasures and pains of the other.

But they never will and you know why don't you?...

because you can't communicate with them, it simply does not compute.

And you wonder most of all why, why is it every time

    you need an emotional response from them to affirm they care;

you receive instead "their" logical response to your emotional needs,

questioning why they need to respond to you at all.

And I see the questions in your eyes that wonder how!

How can I, a man know these things that exist in your mind.

You see all too many times my life has revolved around

these mentally handicapped, emotionally stagnant human beings.

Yet I have overcome them all, and how did I do that?

    I stopped being selfish.

  6. I've got a Honda Gas-powered Progenerator, for when the power goes out.

  7. I think so.. and that is why women have the strength to deal with the shenanigans and trials and worries and pain both man and life assault her with.

    I like your poem, though..

There .. I corrected my self.. I think!

  8. Aye C.S., 'tis the male mystique.  It isn't a matter of weakness so much as difference, and those differences are not all genetically programmed but rather arise from the delicate interplay of biological and sociocultural factors.  In recent decades, we have seen increasing numbers of women become more assertive and more men have become nurturing.  The traditional roles are becoming blurred.  This is perhaps both good and bad, and surely it can be confusing.  If there is an inherent weakness in the Y chromosome (certainly it is much smaller than its X counterpart), then perhaps it is one that two X chromosomes can fix, learn to live with, perhaps even appreciate,,,Thanks for a thoughtful poem.

  9. Men, can't live with them, can't beat them with a stick...or so I heard somewhere. No, I do love them, and all of their insecurities, their inability to cope with emotion, their amazing and unexpected tenderness, their capacity for understanding that we don't give them enough credit for. We both  need the other, the sooner we stop trying to juxtapose the sexes everything will turn out better. Very poignant poem, my friend, and thoroughly enjoyable.

  10. An insightful observation, the mystery is the intrigue, yet both men and

    woman come assorted.

    Clever worded poem.
