Is there really gold in car's airbags and how much is there.?

Are there gold components inside car's airbags, are they gold plated or solid gold. Does anyone know something about this is it a fact or a myth.

  1. Yes but no worth stealing it for the gold..........

    Airbag are assemblies consisting of the airbag (made of Nylon), inflator modules, and sensor housing, electrical connectors (clock-spring), airbag retainer, and the cover you see which usually says "SRS" on it. The driver's side bag is mounted in the center of the steering wheel.


  2. I could be mistaken, but at one time I thought they were charged with gold fulminate.  It is a chemical compound of gold and there is probably not more than a dollor or two worth of gold in it.  Not to mention you could blow yourself up trying to get at it.

  3. VERY LITTLE(ie very small electrical contacts)-computers have waaaaaaaaay more gold in them, not enough to go around stealing air bags or computers, you get more out of the catalytic converters with platinum, iridium and rhodium
