  1. I Love horse racing! I ride horses as a hobby and aspire to be a jockey when I'm older so count me in as a fan! :)

  2. Im a jockey here in Australia, for the last 28 years and still riding,if you got any questions just ask me.(PS let your son decide what he wants to do,as you know its a tough game.)

  3. I am a horse racing artist .http://www.janedunn.co.uk/. I used to work with horses and I rode in point-to points . . There is nothing so colourfull or exciting !!!

It is a wonderful career and  there are always jobs as you get older and have to retire as a jockey you can then look to the caring side and also a life long interest ..

  4. I currently work as a licensed groom at Hawthorne Race course.  I've been a groom now for 5 years working at various race tracks in the following states Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Arkansas, Iowa, and Illinois.  I really love horse racing and my job.  I am married to a retired jockey who rode for 17 years and still works in horse racing as an exercise rider as well as has worked as an assistant trainer.  We have one son who is 13 months old who I am pretty sure will one day be a jockey like his father if he don't I'll be surprised.  My son loves horses since the lead outrider at Hawthorne gave him his first horse ride at 9 months old.  So I think it is a good idea and your son like my son has a good chance of becoming a jockey.

  5. I LOVE horse racing! I know a guy who is a TB trainer and I love to see his horses and watch him work them! I'm prolly a groom right now, but I definitely want to be a jockey when I'm older! That would be cool if your son wants to be a jock...hopefully he'll love horses!

  6. I eat sleep and dream racing! And yes I am involved with racing, I work the East Coast circuit ( Florida in the Winter, Kentucky in the Spring, NY in the Summer and sometimes Breeder's Cup). I am an Equine Sports Massage Therapist.

If your son wants to be a jockey he's got a good head start! IMHO jockeys are born, the really good ones have been around horses all their lives. Either their father was a jockey or a trainer, or they were put up on a horse at a very early age.

I have the utmost respect for jockeys, when you see what "could" happen everytime they ride it makes you wonder how they can do it...LOL!  The ones I detest are the ones who are in constant trouble over substance abuse, not only are they risking their own lives but they put the horses and other jockeys at risk every time they ride! There's enough danger without adding drugs to the mix.
