Question:

Is there some way to stop my hamster from wriggling so much when I try to trim it's teeth?

I saw a vet trim my hamster's teeth before, and I"m pretty sure I can do it myself... with the help of someone else, of course.

Every time I try to hold her still, she wriggles and squirms out of my grasp... Is there some way stop keep her still, just for a while so that I could trim it's teeth?

Thanks.

  1. Don't do this without expeirience, you could hurt her, ask the vet if he/she can show you how to do it yourself.

  2. first off, don't trim the teath yourself...if they are soo bad that the hamster can't eat then bring her to a vet.

Give her some wood blocks, hard treats (and I mean hard treats), carrots, and so on. She will naturally wear down her teath.

  3. um, I'd leave it to the vert to do that.

I've bred hamsters & used to own 19 of them. trust me it's not a good idea to try & trim their teeth by yourself unless you've been tought how to. you don't want to hurt your hamster.

You can get them a wooden chew toy so that they can gnaw their teeth down by themselves.

  4. Please do not attempt this yourself. If you want to learn, have a vet show you how to do it. If you cut them too far you will seriously injure your hamster. They also need to be cut at an angle. Why do you need to cut your hamster's teeth?

  5. Hold her inbetyeen her front legs and back legs on both sides and she cant squirm too much.

  6. you trim the teeth yourself. i just bought mine a salt wheel and it liked that a lot. but unless you hold it almost to the point of not breathing(WARNING!!!! DO NOT DO THAT!!!) i really couldnt say. maybe there is a medicine that could numb it for a few minutes w/o killing it.

  7. NEVER try to trim a hamster's teeth. Take it to the vet.

If you try and clip wrong it can cause death (because of starvation)

  8. Please don't try to clip your hamster's teeth unless your vet has given you permission, and taught you how.  There are many things that could go wrong like clipping too short or causing a vertical fracture.  Or, you could accidentally cut something else like a cheek or gum when the hamster squirms.

If your vet is willing to show you how to clip teeth then have the vet show you proper restraint at the same time.  It's really easier to learn by seeing/doing than by reading.

  9. if i were you i wouldnt trim a hamsters teeth without experience...

    thats just me though...

  10. i think you should take her to the vet

you can say can i help

and he wiill probobly give her an anesthesetic

t put her to bed its temporary

    make an appointment
