My son has been homeschooled. We live in Ohio. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a website we can go to to have him take a test to make sure he is performing at grade level.

  1. Try http://www.SchoolOfTomorrow.com  ,otherwise known as Accelerated Christian Education and ACE Ministries.  They have free online placement tests.  Scroll down to where it says Student Placement and then in yellow it says FREE Online Diagnostic TEST!

    I hope this helps.

  2. http://www.internet4classrooms.com/assis...

Has stuff for every single grade level along with links for help teaching it, printables, and/or online games that help teach different skills.

  3. When my sister was homeschooling her son, she obtained an Iowa test (what they give in Oklahoma to grade school kids) and I administered it to him.  I'm not sure how she did this - maybe through her local homeschool group. I know that the Iowa test and the Stanford are supposed to be good indicators for homeschool parents.

  4. If you get with a local home school communtiy - support group they ususally test once a year. And for a low cost.

  5. You have a few options.

This is probably my favorite, for Reading and Math:

    http://www.letsgolearn.com/lglsite/homes...

It's relatively cheap and they give you great information after its taken.

You can also look at the released tests from the state of Texas (these are the "TAKS" someone mentioned):

    http://www.tea.state.tx.us/student.asses...

If you just want to look at some scope & sequences to see where he falls, here is a good one:

    http://www.worldbook.com/wb/Students?cur...

    or here:

    http://www.education-world.com/standards...

If you want to make sure he's "up to par" with your state's standards, then search on their site (state + board of education) for the information.

Regarding the ITBS ("Iowa"), you can give it to him yourself through BJUP if you, or the other parent, has a Bachelor's degree.  You can give him the Stanford (but only w/ other kids) if you are a certified teacher.

Another option is the CAT-E from Seton Testing:

    http://www.setontesting.com/

The ITBS, Stanford, and CAT are all on paper w/ pencil - not online.  Let's Go Learn is the only one I know about that is online and reputable.

If you use a curriculum, then you should know where he falls within their scope & sequence.  Some curricula companies have placement tests online, but that only places him within *that* curriculum, so it can vary quite a lot.  It can give you an estimate, though.

EDITED TO ADD, after BraxOwl's reply...

If you do the SofT "diagnostic" testing, it is *just* to place your child within their curriculum.  I had my son take it when he was 4 yrs old and he went all the way to the high school level in some areas.  So I decided it was not the curriculum for us.  I've since looked at it again, and compared to my current curriculum, it's 3-4 yrs behind.  So, IMO, that is not a very good option to see what level your child is academically.

I also forgot to mention that you may be able to get academic & IQ testing through your school district.  Ours tested our son, for free, when he was 7.  He's always been HS'ed.

    EDITED TO ADD...after MagicCalm...

Those two links will *only* place your son within those curriculua.  Most curriculum companies do have placement tests.  They are *not* the same as achievement tests.

  6. what you can do is if he is say 16 he should be in either 10th or 11th grade, find an old taks test for that, you can normally print them and have him take the test, what he doesnt know, teach him it and continue from there, go back over everything he should have known to make sure he knows it as well. thats all you can really do unless you go to a school and ask or check on google.com

  7. yes there is a placement test free at this website www.alphaomega.com or www.switchedonschoolhouse.com
