  1. All fast food restaurants are filthy. I'm OCD about places I eat at and wouldn't step foot in one.

  2. Fast food employees are generally well trained and nice young people. But there are no guarantees. Many of the employees are young and have social problems. One shift may have some clinkers on board.

I have inspected several hundred restaurants over the years ( for the insurance companies ) and find that most fast food "joints" have better safety and food handling practices than the family run restaurants have. For one thing, the fast food practices have similar machinery, refrigeration, limited menus. There are fewer situations to s***w up on.

I inspected one place that served buffet style and featured foods such as Saffron. Found that they closed between 2 and 4 P.M.  They did not even cover up the food on the buffet. No refrigeration, nothing. When leaving, I noticed that the sidewalk outside if the swinging door was covered with ugly, dark, grease stains that the patrons had tracked out of the place on their shoes. I called attention to the stains to the owner lady, thinking that I was doing her a favor. She was not fazed for a second! She said "that is the building owners problem!.

  3. I work at KFC, and I would say it's pretty clean there.  We're always cleaning up messes and benches and sweeping the floor, and everything is cooked and prepared very hygienically.

  4. I have worked at both kfc and taco bell for over 15 years. Most of the stores I have worked at have been pretty clean. The stores have to be up to standard in all areas. We have inspections all the time . All the food that is served are timed and dated, when it is expired it is thrown out, and new is put in. The last thing that a company wants is to get people sick, it would cost them way to much money in lawsuits. That is why they have very strick rules that must be followed. Well to make a long story short I would eat there.

  5. It really depends on which location you are at. If you walk in and there is dust on the walls, and the counters and tables are generally dirty, then you can assume the rest of the place is. I personally will only eat at one taco bell in my state. They are always clean, friendly, and have an A as their state score. I guess just look around and see what it looks like and how clean the employee's look. GOOD LUCK

  6. I worked at a KFC for awhile and was surprised by how sanitary they were.

We always had one person who was sandwich maker exclusively and always wore gloves and she'd change them if she left the station.

We use different rags for the front and back to avoid cross-contamination from the raw chicken (blue rags for the back...white rags for the front)

Floors and work areas were cleaned and sanitized twice a day.

All dishes, spoons, pots, pans were washed in 3 bay sink which were Wash, Rinse, and then a sanitize bath.

All food was dated and fresh chicken (non-frozen) which is the stuff on the bone would only be used 7 days after the kill date. (So we had to use it fast and get new shipments in regularly)

We even had to sing happy birthday twice (at regular speed) when washing our hands as the general rule was at least 20 seconds of washing and that was a way to time it.

Obviously all stores are going to be different (different owners, different management, different rules, different peole)

I'm just telling you my experience.

By the way...all food is discarded at night....the only thing saved is the chicken-on-bone is deboned and frozen for pot-pies...the rest is thrown out so you'll never get biscuits from the day before...etc

    Hope this helps.

  7. depends on the place. sanitation relies on the workers ability to clean well, and handle the food well. some taco bells or kfc's could be unsanitary, while others are very sanitary-ive worked in "fine dining" establishments where the place was absolutely filthy, while other restaurants ive worked in (such as kelseys) were extremely clean. it all depends on the staff!!
