My little girl is extremly gassy (to be expected by a 6wk old) but the last two days she seems to be in these panicked attacks that usually result in her passing gas one way or the other!!! It worries me though bc she flings her arms around and kicks her feet...hold her breath then lets out a loud painful sounding cry!! I have to hold her hands down and hold her really tight to me to get her to stop!! Is this normal? It scares me that there might be something else wrong but what?? I plan on calling the doctor in the morning...should I be worried? Help please!!

We had constipation issues about 2 weeks ago due to formula change...we worked those issues out with diluted baby apple juice...pediatrician recommended!! I just dont know whats wrong!! She cried for three straight hours last not which led me to think colic but no long periods of crying today!!

  1. im not sure if its normal but it might be normal for her why dont you try either taking her to the pediatrician about it or calling them

  2. hun this could be very bad colic, you can get medicine over the counter for this but in the state that your saying the poor little mites in i would take her straight to the doctor!

  3. She is doing that to help herself pass the gas and she has no control over her arms. Buy some Mylicon infant gas drops, they will help. Also look into taking an infant massage class. If you don't have one in your area, look at the library for a how to book. It really helps. Hot water bottles under a blanket on her tummy will also help.

  4. I wouldn't hold her arms down, you might hurt her. Gas is extremely painful and I know when I have it sometimes it hurts the worst right before I am ready to pass gas, I think this is all that's wrong. If its bothering you that much, why don't you call the doc?

  5. Infants don't have much control over their arms and legs at this point in time, so when she is thrashing about, it more then likely is because she is in pain and doesn't know what to do about it, and her muscles tighten and clench and her arms wave.  She is probably trying to push the gas out as well.  Try putting her in a warm bath to help ease out the gas bubbles, as well as some Mylicon drops.
