In addition to caffeine, there is apparently a drug that causes people to believe that paying $5 for a cup of coffee is normal.

Really, though, it's just caffeine and sugar.  Both are addictive and will give people a boost, however once it wears off, people will feel tired, and need another boost.  It's a never-ending cycle.
