I own a dell computer its model # 4550 and just a few minutes ago it started acting really really weird. I was trying to delete things from My Documents when suddenly my computer went completely unresponsive. It didn't freeze but it wouldn't do anything. I couldn't exit out of My Documents, if I right-clicked it the little menu wouldn't come up and I could hit any of the buttons (including the "x" button) a million times but nothing would respond. At all. I tried using alt-F4 and finally managed to close it. Then when I tried to access McAfee to preform a virus scan it played the error sound effect and the program refused to open. Finally it opened and I launched a virus scan. In the meantime I logged on to windows live messenger. One of my friends was online and I tried clicking on her screen name to talk to her but every time I did all it would do was play the error sound effect. Then the computer went completely unresponsive again. I only managed to close the program by using alt-F4. To top it off after all of that I had managed to close everything but then NOTHING worked. None of the icons on my desktop would respond would respond or anything (at the moment I'm on my parents computer because when I tried getting here from my computer it acted all weird again) I clicked on them a bunch of times, tried right clicking on them as well but absolutely nothing would happen...so I ended up hitting the power button and restarting my computer. But now I'm afraid to even mess with it in case it starts acting weird again. Can somebody please tell me what the heck is wrong with my computer and how I can go about fixing it? This has never happened before and up until now my computer has been working absolutely fine....PLEASE HELP ME!!

  2. I suggest doing a system scan Follow the instruction on the link below to clean and most likely fix your computer

10 easy step virus and spyware removal using free software

    http://www.review-ninja.com/2008/08/10-e...

Use another pc to download the tools you need the critical one is Sysclean which you can use even on safemode.

  3. use system mechanic 7 it may solve ur problems

  4. i just had the same issue mcAfee just came out with a huge update what you have to do is restart and it will work fine, if it wont restart press the power button quickly if still nothing hold it till it turns off and then back on

  5. Everybody has there own software they like best. My company is running Mcafee 8.5i and the pc's are extremely slow. There are about 80 pc's I do in the building. Some stop responding like yours, others reset and so forth. Know what? All are Dell pc's.

So all I do is take off the fully updated mcafee, and load Panda Internet Security. Jumps up with at least 40 problems, including trojans, virusses and spyware. Removes them by itself, no hassle, no quarinteen. Unfortunately I must put Mcafee back again because of company policy. so that computer then works for +- 2 weeks and it is full of it again.

So get Panda Internet Security trialware and see for yourself. :)

  6. omg! you just downloaded a mega virus.

it was probably some hacker in spain who wanted to know all your juicy secrets.

now your best friends will recieve a lot of spam mail from you.

but that just means they'll have a lot of fake rolex watches and p***s cream... so that's not all bad right?

mcafee sucks. norton is pretty good, if you don't mind your computer lagging a bit.

calling dell works, but you're going to hafta go through a really long process... and payment. whatever. dell sucks sometimes.

salvage what you can. norton has a shareware version of their software and i'm sure f you run it once, it will clean up whatevers bugging you.

    cheers.

  7. If it's still under warranty ring Dell

  8. It looks like a program is running at 100%. Start your pc without the internet line connected and if the problem reappears try opening the Task Manager directly with Ctrl+Alt+Del, identify the culprit and shut it down. If the culprit is something you never heard of, most probably it's a malware.  Reboot in Safe Mode and try to run the crappy Antivirus you have already. If you can't start backing up. Your last option apart reinstalling is to run an AV from a Linux Live-CD or a specialised recovery disk.

    Next time use these:

    browser - http://www.opera.com/  - replace IE, it's a malware magnet junk

    antivirus - http://www.avast.com/

    antispyware - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...

    ................. - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl...

    firewall - http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

They are all the best in their category and FREE. Stay away from AVG, Norton or security suites.
