Question:

Is there something that you can put into a pool to detect motion?

Someone put my father's potted plants into the deep end of the pool. Is there some kind of device that detects motion? He's pretty sure it was the neighbor teens but he's not sure. Also, I'm not sure if this is legal, but the homeowners association discouraged him installing cameras because of liability on their part, which makes no sense, but that was what they said.

Thanks.

  2. This is intended to save children from drowning, but you could use it for saving plants I guess.

    http://www.sonarguard.com/

Also try google searching "pool alarms" or  "motion detector for swimming pools".

    Good luck

  3. Hey, after all it is your dad's yard.  Check out X-10, on the www.  They have motion detection, heat detection activated cameras to catch them in the act.

Heck your dad may find out one of the vandals, dad is on the homeowners association!

    You're welcome!!

  4. Do you live in a condo or a house? A condo assoc may have liability with the camera a house assoc won't?

But yes there are detectors for pools. They are used for child safety. If something goes into the pool the water level raises or movement sets off the alarm.

But personally I'd buy lights with motion sensors and the camera so you can catch the people doing it in the act and turn them in. Even if you don't want a security camera set up a video camera set up inside a window on slow record speed every night for a while till you catch them would work. Hook it up to your computer hard drive and erase it every night or so & you wont have to replace tapes or DVDs.

  5. MMM,not sure about a water motion detector, wouldnt just the waves make it sound off?,but there are many different motion detectors that are used around the home,I'd just use one that makes a bright light come on when it detects motion around the pool area.

Ofcoarse a big dog could be even more effective.

And yes your father could be held responsible for accidents that happen in his pool area, even though he might not give them permission to swim, the camera will just give the invaders proof that they were hurt there ,and you dont want that .

    Good Luck Froggy

  6. There's lights that detect motion you can put up by the pool and when someone comes around a light turns on, and if the kids see the light turn on they'll probably stop what they're doing and run
